ABOUT US
Dogs Refuge Home is a not-for-profit animal shelter located in Shenton Park, offering dogs a welcoming community until they are placed in safe homes. Our message is that rescue is the best breed, promoting animal adoption over breeders and pet stores.
As one of the oldest animal welfare organisations in Australia, Dogs Refuge Home has continued to grow over 80 years. Each year we save over 1000 dogs from hardship, such as abuse, neglect or loss of an owner. We remain true to our fundamental belief that dogs are entitled to the same love and respect that they give us.
Here at the Dogs’ Refuge Home we hold a strong Pro-Life policy, meaning that no healthy animals are euthanised. We also don’t place time-limits on animals, dogs are provided with all the necessary love and care until they are re-homed. We do however recognise that in unfortunate circumstances animals sometimes need to be put down, though this only occurs under the advice of qualified veterinarians.
Euthanasia rates at Dogs Refuge Home are very low, less than 1% of all animals are put to sleep each year. Not only are Perth metropolitan dogs supported, dogs from all over the Western Australian state are taken in. The organisation runs on donations received by the community and local businesses, aiding in vital aspects of each animals’ care.
